Yoga is an ancient practice that has lived on through generations to embody the continual connection of all beings.  We believe that the path of yoga will lead each individual to self-discovery, self-fulfillment, and self-love.
At Gateway Bodyworks it is our goal to teach yoga from our heart to yours. Through practice, it is possible to embrace your heart and live life to your greatest potential!  Yoga will change you physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Our emphasis is not only the physical attributes that yoga has to offer (though they are amazing), but the incorporation of breath (allowing the body to cleanse and center), and meditation practices (allowing the mind to clear and connect to the body, the earth, the universe).
We ask each of our students to come join us with open minds and open hearts.  Our instructors are generous and kind and truly blessed at what they do!
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti….

Hatha Yoga:

Each of our classes is based on Hatha Yoga. In contrast to conventional sports and physical training programs, hatha yoga has been developed over thousands of years as a way of teaching people how to improve their lives. Often in conventional forms of exercise people hold their breath while exerting themselves. In hatha yoga, you will learn to control your breathing in a relaxed and modulated way in order to provide focus in the different postures. Learning to do this properly is the gateway to many of the mental and spiritual benefits of hatha yoga. As you progress with hatha yoga, you will gain greater flexibility in your body and mind. Like any form of exercise, hatha yoga helps develop physical strength.
Exercise, as it is usually done only reinforces misalignment. When people don't know how to exercise properly, they tend to stretch from their more flexible areas and rely on their better developed muscles for strength. Practicing Yoga will help you develop emotional strength that will help you handle the challenges of life with a balanced disposition. From there you can continue to grow with your hatha yoga practice, and you will find that there are plenty of resources to help you along the way.

Vinyasa Flow:

Vinyasa is the synchronization of breath with movement. The flow of the practice with the breath brings together the internal and the external. In vinyasa classes, each pose is linked to the next through a series of connecting movements, allowing the body to create heat naturally and leading to more flexibility. Smooth, deep breathing (ujai), gaze (dristi) and locks (bandhas) are synchronized with the movements. This powerful and vigorous practice purifies and realigns the body, cultivating a feeling of inner peace; leading to a natural state of meditation. Vinyasa practice leaves the practitioner feeling energized, centered and more connected with his/her Higher Self.

If you have never taken yoga or you have but are not quite comfortable yet, this is the class for you!  As a beginner, you will experience the practice of hatha yoga as a form of physical exercise that challenges and refines your flexibility, strength and balance. Also, you will learn to control your breathing in a relaxed and modulated way in order to provide focus in the different postures. Learning to do this properly is the gateway to many of the mental and spiritual benefits of hatha yoga. As the individual progresses, greater flexibility of body and mind is gained. This empowers the practitioner to face life's challenges with a balanced disposition.

Yin/Yang Yoga:

Yin Yoga is a series of quiet stationary poses. The Yin practice is designed to work our connective tissues (ligaments and fascia) and to protect the health of our joints. It nourishes the flow of energy in our bodies through a practice of holding a series of floor postures for 3 to 5 minutes. Benefits of the practice are increased flexibility, energy flow and relaxation. The Yin practice is a perfect complement to the more muscular, movement-oriented practices of yoga. Modern researchers are also contending that strengthening and stretching connective tissues may be critical for long-term health. We incorporate Yang into this Yin class with movement and additional stretching with flow.

Private Yoga Instruction:

Traditionally, yoga was practiced with one teacher and one student.  It is more practical to offer classes for the masses today; however, it may be more beneficial for a yogi to receive one on one instruction.  Private instruction can provide a setting in which your individuality can be completely assessed and prescribed.  Some aspects of yoga pranayama (breath), asana (posture), dhyana (meditation) are specifically chosen and assigned to aide your practice.  Therapists also take your diet, lifestyle, and constitution into consideration in order to tailor your practice in a way that is most beneficial for you.  Private Instruction is for the beginner as well as the seasoned yogi.
